What can the community recycle in Forest Row
Batteries - Household batteries can be dropped off in the Second Life shop
Bras - Second Life shop now has a bra bank for collection of good quality but unwanted bras on behalf of Against Breast Cancer
Christmas Trees - for the first 3 weeks of January christmas trees can be left at the back of the Community Centre where they will be collected and recycled as surface material for some local footpaths. Thanks to D C Johnson for providing this service.
Food - Fresh surplus food can be taken to the Forest Row Community Fridge in the Car Park by Seasons
Glasses - (as in spectacles) can be dropped off in the Second Life Shop where they are taken by East Grinstead Lions and passed on to a charity
Hearing Aids - take these to Hearology on The Square where they will be handed over to a charity to service them and send them to Africa.
Jam Jars - there is a jam jar exchange at the back of the Second Life shop for free drop off or collection of jam jars
Metal - once or twice a year we organise a free metal drop-off for the village. The next one is likely to be in Spring 2025.
Tablet Blister Packs - we take these in at the Second Life shop unless you live in Mid Sussex in which case they can be left in a separate bag with your council recycling collection.
Other low-waste initiatives
The Parish Council provides bins for textiles and shoes in the community centre car park.
Forest Row Bits and Bobs for Sale is a facebook page for locals to post unwanted items. Commonly clothes, furniture, books and toys are often available
Forest Row Unwrapped is a community initiative to encourage packaging-free shopping, locally here in Forest Row. They have created a simple-to-use directory which lists the packaging-free options offered by local shops and businesses. You can get more information and updates by following them on Facebook and Instagram to share knowledge and expertise, and get support from other people interested in this way of shopping.
