Pop-Up Recycling Weekend
Sunday 17th November 2019
The Waste Recycling Action Group volunteers organised a pop up recycling weekend to understand what the village wanted from a modern recycling centre. The doors of the old tip site opened from 10am to 4pm on a very wet autumn weekend. It didn’t stop raining but the ‘buzz’ in the place was heart-warming. Residents were supportive and welcoming of the effort.
What was achieved
- 351 visitors over the two days (which considering the adverse conditions on Saturday, was excellent)
- 151 vehicles
- 932 kilos of Scrap Metal recovered
- 24 tonnes of Wood
- 9 tonnes of Cardboard
- 500 kilos of Textiles
- Over 3.5 tonnes recycled with 0% ending up landfill or incinerated
- £300+ in donations against re-usable items handed in and taken away.
In addition there was
- A Visitor Suvey
- Great community atmosphere
- Artist displays on the walls from art produced with materials from the old tip site
- Stalls by young entrepreneurs displaying and receiving donations for environmentally friendly products
